Decluttering and Weeding Your Home

decluttering your home

Episode Description:

Clutter is like weeds! It doesn’t require anything from you in order to thrive and before you know it, it’s destroying everything you want to thrive.

Today I’m sharing an analogy that I came up with that compares clutter to weeds in a garden. I discuss how clutter doesn’t require anything of you in order to thrive, and it will destroy everything you want or need to thrive. In this episode, I share and explain the analogy that clutter is like weeds. I discuss how clutter doesn’t require anything of you in order to thrive, and it will destroy everything you want or need to thrive. Listen to learn why you need to weed the garden of your home.

The last few years I’ve gotten into edible gardening (berries, veggies and fruit trees).

One thing I didn’t realize is how quickly weeds can take over a crop, especially in my tiny gardens.

The last two years I have been battling NIGHTSHADE in my raspberry bushes. So, I have learned that even though I have a soft spot for dandelions and let those thrive in our yard, some weeds just have to go because of their potential harm.

The thing about weeds is that in general, they aren’t inherently bad. They become a problem when they

  1. Are harmful to a species (like nightshade)
  2. Take over crops that you want to be thriving – like mint that dominates any garden it gets into and all of a sudden your poor strawberries are smothered like mine last year when I forgot to weed for just one week.

Weeds in a garden aren’t that different from clutter in your home.

Clutter will just accumulate and thrive without you needing to pay it any attention (like weeds do).

And before you know it, the things you WANT to thrive are smothered.

And then you have to spend all your time and energy focusing on the unwanted things. Because if you DON’T, those weeds (or clutter) will drain the life from everything around it.

My point is, you don’t have a choice to declutter… it has to be done, or else it will slowly drain the nutrients & resources of your home which are YOUR time, energy, money, attention and effort.

You owe it to yourself and your family to clear out the proverbial weeds of your home so that the people inside it can thrive. You can’t afford not to –
